Review Wild Merman

Oh my goodness, Wild Merman was such a fantastic ride! I absolutely devoured it, just like the rest of the Mermaids of Cornwall series. Amaya Hart has this incredible knack for creating these captivating underwater worlds that feel both fantastical and strangely relatable. The whole series has been a wonderful escape, but this installment really took things to another level. I loved seeing the mermaid family finally experiencing some peace after all their battles – the wedding preparations for Rosie and Elan were such a sweet and well-deserved respite. But, of course, things can never stay calm for long in Cornwall, can they?

The plot twists and turns kept me completely hooked. I found myself completely invested in Catrina’s struggle; her desperate fight for survival against the Witch Queen and that incredibly complicated, roguishly handsome villain had me on the edge of my seat. The author did such a brilliant job building the tension; even knowing that certain characters were destined to be together, the how and the when remained thrillingly unpredictable. The suspense was expertly crafted – I genuinely felt the weight of their situations and was biting my nails waiting to see how they’d overcome the obstacles.

The merman himself was a captivating character. I won't spoil anything, but his internal struggles and the way his loyalty was tested added a fascinating layer to the story. His relationship with the other main characters felt organic and heartfelt. You really felt their connection grow throughout the book, and the eventual resolution (while I’m trying desperately hard not to give anything away!) was incredibly satisfying.

Honestly, I could go on and on. The world-building is rich and immersive; the characters are complex and well-developed; and the pacing is perfect – never too slow, never too rushed. It's one of those books you just lose yourself in completely. It left me wanting more immediately, which is both a testament to Hart's writing and a slight torture because the wait until February 2023 for book nine feels agonizing! I already know I’ll be counting down the days. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, and indeed the entire series, to anyone who enjoys a good blend of fantasy, romance, and nail-biting adventure. It’s the perfect escape for anyone who appreciates strong female characters, a touch of magic, and a healthy dose of swoon-worthy romance. If you haven't started this series yet, you absolutely must! You won't regret it.
